Leon “Shades” Ndemo never expected stepping in dog poop to spark his most ambitious invention yet. But in 2016, the Los Angeles videographer found himself cleaning an unpleasant surprise off his pristine Silicon Beach doorstep. Looking at the plastic bags and rudimentary sticks typically used to handle dog waste removal, inspiration struck. There had to be a better way to scoop for fashion-focused neighborhoods like his own.
Thus Leon’s four-year journey began to develop the Pooper Scooper – elevating dog poop collection into a covetable experience for affluent owners. Creative Roots

Leon’s creative instincts trace back to his youth. Raised in Santa Monica, he found inspiration in the trend-focused neighborhoods of “Silicone Beach” teeming with tech giants. A glimpse inside the elite Los Angeles scene proved good design permeates every aspect of living.
Yet in 2016, Leon stepped outside his idyllic condo to find an unpleasant surprise lacking any aesthetic appeal: dog poop. Armed with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a photographer’s discerning eye, Leon knew it was time for an upscale solution.
He had spent seven years capturing high-fashion moments as an official photographer for the Los Angeles County District Attorney. Leon also lensed Hollywood celebrities and legendary architecture. Scooping dog waste called for the same luxurious experience.
The Design Process

Engineered using 3D printing and premium materials, the Pooper Scooper 1.5 took four years to perfect. Leon enlisted his family’s feedback on prototypes, noting the laughs when his wife Holly declared it “the world’s most expensive pooper scooper.”
The first prototype relied on a Clorox bottle, proving the concept. Subsequent versions saw Leon draw on his savvy for upscale aesthetics until finally landing on the 1.5 edition.
