Food safety, sustainability, and waste reduction aren’t just buzzwords—they’re urgent challenges shaping the future of what we eat and how it gets to our plates. Amid these global pressures, Copperprotek is taking center stage, delivering smarter, safer solutions that are changing the game for food production and packaging. This trailblazing Chilean biotechnology company has developed innovative ways to extend shelf life, reduce waste, and cut down on harmful plastics, all while keeping food fresh and secure. With their tech seamlessly integrated into packaging, Copperprotek is paving the way for a greener, more efficient food industry.

The Visionaries Behind Copperprotek’s U.S. Expansion

At the forefront of Copperprotek’s success in the United States are Santiago Salvestrini and Johnathan Raineau, two dynamic leaders who serve as the exclusive distributors of Copperprotek technology in the U.S. While not the inventors of the technology, their efforts have been instrumental in scaling Copperprotek’s impact globally.

Johnathan’s connection to the company is deeply rooted in family. Johnathan holds a stake in the parent company in Chile and Copperprotek USA through the Raineau family. Meanwhile, Santiago’s involvement stems from a close friendship with co-founder Raúl Molina, who, alongside Javier Lavin, spearheaded the company’s development. Santiago’s early belief in innovation led him to provide pro bono support, eventually helping secure U.S. Gras certifications for FDA and FSIS. “Santiago and Johnathan’s leadership embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and dedication needed to bring transformative technology to new markets,” remarked Molina.

Smart Packaging Copperprotek’s Game-Changer in Food Safety

Its smart packaging technology is central to Copperprotek’s innovations, designed to ensure food safety even under less-than-ideal conditions. By leveraging copper’s natural antimicrobial properties, the packaging actively destroys bacteria at the RNA level. This proactive solution mitigates the risks posed by broken cold chains—a common issue in food distribution.

As Santiago explained, “In an ideal world, a consistent cold chain exists from production to the customer’s home. But the reality is different. Even under perfect conditions, we extend shelf life by 25% to 35%. When the cold chain is broken, our technology achieves up to 183% longer shelf life.”

The packaging’s adaptive nature makes it particularly effective. When bacterial growth begins, the packaging releases copper ions, disrupting bacteria at the RNA level. The result is safer, longer-lasting food that maintains its organoleptic qualities—taste, texture, and freshness.

Tackling Food Waste and Environmental Impact

Copperprotek’s mission extends far beyond food safety. By extending shelf life, the company reduces food waste—a pressing issue in the meat industry, which has one of the highest carbon footprints per kilogram. This innovation enables producers to maximize efficiency, reach broader markets, and reduce excess inventory loss.

Additionally, Copperprotek is addressing the environmental challenges posed by traditional packaging.

“Copperprotek’s technology represents a significant step forward in making the food industry more sustainable,” said Johnathan. “It’s about ensuring safety while also protecting the planet.”

A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

Johnathan Raineau’s global perspective and entrepreneurial acumen have shaped Copperprotek’s trajectory. With investments in the hospitality and biotechnology industries, Johnathan brings a wealth of experience to his role. As Managing Director since 2017, his hands-on approach and open-door leadership style have fostered profitable relationships and strengthened team capabilities.

Johnathan’s achievements extend beyond business. He founded the Ludovic James Organization as a dedicated philanthropist, supporting underprivileged students and families. His commitment to community and innovation underscores his vision for Copperprotek, a company that transforms industries and uplifts lives.

The Future of Copperprotek

Looking ahead, Copperprotek remains committed to enhancing food safety, reducing waste, and minimizing the environmental impact of packaging. The company’s biotechnology, backed by FDA and USDA certifications, is poised to scale further, offering food companies reliable, globally recognized solutions.

By integrating smart packaging into supply chains, Copperprotek sets a new standard for the food industry. Santiago, Johnathan, and the Copperprotek team envision a future where food reaches consumers in the best possible condition—safe, fresh, and sustainable.

As Santiago aptly put it, “We’re not just protecting food; we’re protecting the future.”
